Now that you have received your NRA certificate of completion, you can schedule your fingerprint appointment with your local police department. Some departments have you schedule online while others accept walk ins on specific week days. Bring your NRA certificate and ID with you to your appointment. This step is to apply for your “Temporary State Permit”. A background check will be conducted first. Upon passing the background check you will be contacted by your local police department to come pick up your temporary state permit.
Once you receive your temporary state permit you have to bring that along with valid ID or:
•Birth Certificate
•US Passport
•Documentation Of Permanent Residence
to the State Trooper barracks closest to where you live, or DESPP in Middletown CT.
There is a $70 fee paid by cash, check or money order made to “Treasurer, State Of Connecticut” and your picture will get your picture taken.

Your permit is valid for 5 years & the process of renewing is presenting a valid ID, $70 renewal fee, taking a new photo and signature. There is a 90 day grace period after the expiration date but PLEASE!!! Just renew a month early.
If you are a non resident then you can apply directly with the state police upon completing the course.
